Image Comments
Quarter Earth Earth image: quarter of one frame from NASA's blue marble project The website states:
Images are freely available to educators, scientists, museums, and the public
The image was taken from one of the rotating earth simulations. Care was taken to have the Space Shuttle fly over the United States, and more specifically Texas.
Saturn This classic Saturn image was taken by Voyager 2. NASA's Website states:
All of the images presented on NSSDC's Photo Gallery are in the public domain. As such, they may be used for any purpose. NSSDC does ask, however, that you acknowledge NASA and the NSSDC as the supplier of the data. In addition, where the source of the image (by project or as a specific person) is credited in the text, you should also acknowledge that, too.
Jupiter This image of Jupiter is a very small sliver of the original image taken by the Cassini Spacecraft on its way to Saturn. The main reason to use this image is to provide a curve that the buttons can hug.
Space Shuttle The original image is actually a conceptual painting taken from NASA's history pages. The full painting depicts a backgroud which has been stripped for this website. Also the image had to be rotated and mirrored for the desired arientation towards the image of the Earth as well as the website itself. Lastly the image had to be edited to show a proper US flag and readable text.
Hubble Deep Field The Original image from the Hubble Deep Field was taken from NASA's Hubble Telescope page. The web site states:
Material credited to STScI on this site was created, authored, and/or prepared for NASA under Contract NAS5-26555. Unless otherwise specifically stated, no claim to copyright is being asserted by STScI and it may be freely used as in the public domain in accordance with NASA's contract. However, it is requested that in any subsequent use of this work NASA and STScI be given appropriate acknowledgement.
